Introduction, Posture & Tuning

Students new to the guitar must first know the parts of the instrument and their various functions. Knowing how to sit with the instrument and hold it correctly are the basics our teachers will show you. Learning the very important skill of tuning your guitar is also one of the first step skills we teach.

Tablature, Sheet Music & Chords

Our guitar students learn how to produce chords and follow a chord chart. This is a great skill for students wanting to learn to play popular songs and read sheet music. Establishing basic chords means you open the door to being able to play thousands of songs on your guitar.

You & Your Guitar

Our teachers will show students how to strum and pluck both acoustic & electric guitars leading to being able to play chords and melodies on their instrument. Developing this skill leads to playing riffs and solos and more complex music for guitar. Guitar students and the role of the wrist and the fingers and how that helps to strum and pluck the balance and control.

Guitar Technique & Styles

As students develop, they will learn scales, modes and pentatonics. Learning how to practise these well means your technical abilities will grow and you can take on greater challenges and explore the many musical styles a guitar can produce. From Rock to Baroque.

Music Theory & Classical Guitar

Learning music theory from our ‘Theory Wiz’ books will lay the foundations for you to apply to all guitar music. Learning about the clefs, notation, note values and rhythm and how that applies to the guitar are essential skills all guitarists need. For classical guitar music, learning advanced terminology opens greater interpretation possibilities.

Perform & Gig

We encourage all of our students to participate in our event, ‘Student Gig’ or perform for friends and family as much as possible. Your guitar teacher will prepare you to perform, show you stage presence and help you with performance confidence.
