Our violin teachers guide their students to develop the discipline and precision required for this sophisticated and beautiful instrument.

Posture and instrument Hold

There are many fine details to understand when learning to play the violin. The physical finesse required to hold and balance the instrument and place the bow on the strings is both complex and essential to making quality sounds on the violin. Our teachers’ are experts in understanding this and guide students to establishing good posture and instrument hold that leads to good sound production and music making.

Your Violin & Tuning

It is essential students have their own instrument and they will learn the mechanics of their violin and bow. Our teachers guide students on the fundamental skill of tuning their instrument.

Develop Bow Techniques

We teach students about bow distribution and what part of the bow is used for different note values. Students are introduced to the variety of different bowing techniques such as détaché, staccato, legato and eventually more advanced techniques like spiccato.

Repertoire & Examinations

Students commence with simple songs and etudes to develop the basics. Once they progress past the basics, students move on to more complex repertoire and scales. We encourage our violin students to be ambitious and take examinations as setting goals for violin students is a great way to achieve progress.

Music Theory

For beginners, learning music theory from our ‘Theory Wiz’ books will lay the foundations for violin studies. Learning about the clefs, notation, note values and rhythm and how that applies to the violin are essential skills. For intermediate to advanced violin studies, students will be taught advanced terminology and periodic stylistic nuances.

Performing & Recitals

We place enormous importance on performing and provide our students with a variety of performance opportunities on our annual calendar of events. Our ‘Student Recital’ concerts are held twice a year and are ideal for violin students to increase self confidence and develop their performing skills.
